The Cherokee Nation is making it easier for Tulsans to track their tribal ancestry. The tribe has partnered with the Area Council for Community Action to help people who believe they are eligible for Cherokee membership.

The ACCA in Tulsa is will help with the research and gathering the proper documents needed to apply for citizenship.

"The challenge is you have to identify that Cherokee ancestor on the base roll of a hundred years ago, the Dawes Commission Roll, and then provide all the documentation to link you with that person.  Sometimes that's a challenge and that's why we're offering genealogical services," said Chief Chad Smith of the Cherokee Nation.

The ACCA is located at 205 East Pine Street in the North Pointe Business Complex, Suite 3. You can get more information by calling 592-1339.
