Authorities were back at the scene of the crime near Weeletka with some extra help on Wednesday. The News On 6's Jennifer Pierce reports Taylor Paschal-Placker and Skyla Whitaker were gunned down over two weeks ago, but investigators are hoping to find new clues.
The K9 officer and its handler canvassed the area where the girls were shot, including the brush line along a dirt road. The search took about an hour. Unfortunately, it didn't turn up any new clues.
The ATF volunteered Shirley, a three-year-old golden lab retriever. Her handler, a Tulsa County deputy says Shirley is trained to detect bullet casings as well as residue from explosives.
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has searched the crime scene using metal detectors, but wanted to cover the area again with a trained explosives K9.
"Even though the dog did not hit on any type of bullet casings, it does help us narrow down our leads in a specific forensic way," said the OSBI's Jessica Brown.
And, even though it has been over two weeks and the area has seen several rain falls, The News On 6 was told Shirley would still be able to pick up on any chemical residue that was left over.
