Now that summer's here, your pets may be spending more time outside. But, veterinarians say this time of year they may be more at risk.
"There's lots of things that you have to be conscious of in the summertime with your pets. Everybody is pretty aware or the requirements of lots of shade and plenty of water. Insects and parasites are quite a problem in the summertime," said Dr. Bob Poteet with Cedarwood Veterinary Clinic.
After an exam, Dr. Poteet works up a full chart on his patients with a plan for beating their summer health issues. This plan usually includes, with flea killing pills, fly-repelling salve bitten ears and shots to keep tags current for rabies, distemper, and a host of illnesses that can be more widespread in warmer months.
With parasites under control, your pet will be happier for the rest of the season with itching and scratching soon a thing of the past.
