The combination of heavy rain and worn out pipes is causing sewer problems for the city of Sand Springs. The Angus Acres sewer system has been fixed for now, but leaders fear it won't last long with more severe weather on the way.
The city says rain water is finding its way into an outdated sewer system, causing waste to overflow. The city has budgeted to fixed the miles of old pipe over time, but each time it rains, it sets them back even more.
"The area probably that's served by this system might have oh, 300 to 400 houses on it, But doesn't affect every house it surfaces at certain points, the low points," said Vernon Smith of the City of Sand Springs.
The city says the problem forces some residents to stop flushing toilets to relieve the system during heavy rains.
