A Tulsa Police Captain has been honored as the 2008 Law Officer Trainer of the Year.

Captain Travis Yates was presented at the 2008 ILEETA International Training Conference and Expo this month.

Law Officer Magazine and ILEETA staff chose Captain Yates from a field of highly qualified trainers.

"Travis is a great selection for this year's award because he represents the finest type of trainer-one who always gives to others and, at the same time, finds ways to improve his existing product" stated Dale Stokton, editor of Law Officer Magazine.

Captain Travis Yates oversees the Tulsa Police Department Precision Driving Unit which is responsible for training all of Tulsa's officers as well as officers from surrounding agencies. Captain Yates also writes numerous columns for different industry related websites and publications.

"Captain Yates has dedicated a significant portion of his career to improving the safety of officers through effective driver training. The Tulsa Police Department has received National recognition through his efforts and we are extremely proud one of our own was chosen for such a prestigious award," Tulsa Police Major Eric Dalgleish.

The award was presented in Chicago.
