The city of Broken Arrow has borrowed from a nearby community in the selection of its new fire chief.
Broken Arrow officials announced Friday, Jackie Carner, who has served as Sapulpa's Fire Chief since 1994, is the community's new head firefighter.
"Broken Arrow's fire department is among the best in the country," says Carner. "It's an exciting time to be in BA and I am honored to lead a group of outstanding and dedicated firefighters."
While in Sapulpa, Chief Carner managed the design and construction of two fire stations, the purchase of a state-of-the-art mobile training simulator and initiated a first responder service program for the department.
Carner is past President of the Oklahoma Fire Chiefs Association and Green Country Fire Chiefs Association, member of the State Domestic Terrorism Advisory Committee and the Governor's appointee to the State Fire Marshal Commission.
"We are excited to welcome Jackie to the City of Broken Arrow family," says City Manager Jim Twombly. "His experience and leadership right here in Oklahoma make him a terrific fit for the department."
Carner will begin duties in July, replacing Chief Dennis McIntire who is retiring.
