Cowboy fans are sounding off about the Travis Ford hire, and are making their opinions known on local talk radio.  The News On 6's Chris Wright reports many Pokes fans hoped the university would bring in a more marquee coach.  But now that Ford is coming to Stillwater, most have decided that maybe this is not such a bad hire after all.

On Thursday, it did not take long for fans to light up The Sports Animal's phone lines.  News On 6 Sports Director John Holcomb and co-host Geoff Haxton were busy fielding calls.

The Pokes faithful are eager to dissect all things Travis Ford.  And, maybe surprisingly, nearly everyone is endorsing the hire.

Here is what callers had to say about the new coach:

"I truly believe this is a brand new era at OSU, and fans are going to have to embrace that and become a part of it, otherwise it's not going to work."

"I just think it's going to be fabulous.  I hope people fill the stands next year, and make sure that we're built Ford tough, right."

"Now you bring in a guy in Travis Ford who you cannot find one guy who, not one guy out there who anything negative to say about him."

It was only a week ago that OSU fans were in favor of luring Kansas coach Bill Self to Stillwater.  That did not happen. But callers seem ready to move on.

"I did not think that any of these big time coaches were ever going to come to OSU under the circumstances.  I think this Travis Ford fella is a whale of a coach."

"At any rate, I'm looking forward to it.  After Bill Self, personally he was my pick."

It's a reaction the radio-hosts whole-heartedly agree with.

"Get behind him. That's what you should do.  I think Cowboys fans, as we heard today, are going to do that," said Haxton.

Of course, the tenor of these calls could change quickly. It all depends on how well the Pokes perform on the hardwood.
