A small Lincoln County community wants to build a private prison, but it's up to the school board to make the decision.
Stroud city leaders want to put the prison in the middle of town. That location is within a mile of several schools and according to state law, if a private prison is that close to a school campus, the city must first get the okay of the school board before proceeding with plans.
If the school board votes against the prison plans, city leaders say they have a second location they will consider.
