Mayors across the country rolled up their sleeves on Wednesday and started cooking.
It was "Mayors For Meals" day, an annual event that promotes the Meals On Wheels program. The effort is designed to put the volunteer program in the spotlight and show the public how easy it is to help seniors and others in need who are unable to leave their homes.
"Sometimes this is the only person they see during the week, during the day. Somebody who comes with a meal and says kind words for them, visits with them," said Bertha LeMieux with Meals On Wheels.
About 900 mayors in the U.S. participate in the program, but it needs more funding and volunteers.
Those who help only have to commit to two-to-three hours a month helping out in the mornings. For more information, you can call 627-4103.
