Police say 13-year-old Sydney Dailey is dead after getting into a fight over a boy. It happened Saturday around 7:30 p.m. on North Boston Avenue.

The News On 6's Dan Bewley reports the 14-year-old suspects name can't be used because she's being held as a youthful offender and has not been officially charged.

Police tell The News On 6 the girl stabbed Dailey several times after an argument over her boyfriend.

The fight happened at Dailey's home in the 1300 block of North Boston Avenue. Investigators say Dailey and two other teenage girls were at the home Saturday night when a 14-year old and Dailey began fighting over a boy.

"I believe it was on ongoing argument over what, at this point, we'll call a common boyfriend," said TPD Det. Vic Regalado.

A neighbor described seeing the girls run from the back of the house while Dailey made her way to the porch and collapsed.

Dailey's father came outside and called for help, according to the neighbor. Dailey was rushed to a hospital where she was pronounced dead. The 14-year-old was taken into custody at her home a short time later.

Police say violence by teens is not unusual.

According to a University of Wisconsin study, murder is the second leading cause of death among teenagers with teen homicide rates tripling over the past 40 years.  But what makes this case out of the ordinary is teenage boys are five times more likely to die than teenage girls.

"Typically it's males that are involved in these types of situations. So it is fairly uncommon, however it does happen unfortunately," said Det. Regalado.

Dailey was an 8th grader in Tulsa Public Schools.

A spokeswoman tells the News On 6 the district is putting together a crisis management team and despite this week being spring break, counselors will be available for parents and students.

Details on where they can find the help should be available on Monday.
