They hope to be engineers one day.
Area high school and elementary teams are challenged to build and race a self-propelled, motorized watercraft. More than 200 students competed. Many of them are already enrolled in engineering and design courses at their school.
"We're making a boat design. It's in the open class, so you can use anything you want and it's to get it to go down the gutter in the fastest time," said Memorial freshman Patrick Thurman.
Awards are given for the fastest boat, design and teamwork.
