Jameel Owens likes to make people laugh.
"He's a clown," said Muskogee football coach Matt Hennesy. " I've always told him if he doesn't make it in the NFL he can go straight to Hollywood."
So it came as no surprise that Owens put on a suspenseful performance when announcing where he'd be playing college football.
In a ploy that went down in Bedlam history - masking an orange and black OSU hat to reveal OU's crimson and cream...
"We did a little hat trick and I had a little jersey on," said Owens, who has verbally committed to the University of Oklahoma. "I'm the big jokester around here so I knew I had to do something."
The thrilling announcement capped off an impressive high school football career. Owens was rated as the state's top player, not to mention receiving All-American and All-State honors from six different publications.
"He's a freak as far as the combination," Hennesy said. "He's got the height. He's got the weight. He can jump. He can run. He has the speed and the best hands I've ever seen on a high school kid."
"I hope three or four years down the line I'll be declaring for the draft," Owens said. "We just have to come out and show what we can do."
And if the NFL doesn't work out he can still be on the big stage.
"He's a guy who can take the mic and control the whole crowd," Hennesy said. "I expect to see him on the big screen someday when he's done playing on the field."
"Some people say I should take communications, broadcasting or something like that," Owens said. "I need to look into that because I like getting in front of the mic and talking to people."
