What a Weekend!

Words can't express how proud I am of what happened Saturday morning during the Race for the Cure. There were so many wonderful moments from start to finish. First, thanks to the more then 9500 participants who turned out to run or walk. That's a record! And while the final numbers are still being tabulated, I have no doubt we'll have raised more than half a million dollars in the fight against breast cancer.
Second, thanks to the more than 100 people who logged on and joined my team. We raised more than five thousand dollars. That's terrific! It was great to see so many faces at the KOTV tent before the race. Thank you for taking time to stop by.
And thanks to KOTV-Channel 6! As a breast cancer survivor and an employee, the station has been supportive of this cause throughout my journey. When we had this opportunity to become a presenting sponsor and partner with Komen Tulsa, our general manager, Regina Moon graciously agreed that we needed to be involved. Thanks to her and the great company we work for, Griffin Communications for making this happen.
I hope you have enjoyed being part of this project. I can't say enough how early detection is the key. If you're over the age of 40 and have never had a mammogram, you need to schedule it today! You should be doing monthly self-breast exam and have an annual appointment with you doctor. If you suspect something, have it check out. It's better to be overly cautious than to ignore a lump. And just remember, there is help and hope for those who battle breast cancer. Maybe one day soon, we'll find the cure!
