Horse Racing And Labor Commissioners Discussing Worker's Comp

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - State Labor Commissioner Lloyd Fields told the Oklahoma Horse Racing Commission on Thursday that the state's four racetracks need to ensure there is adequate workers' compensation coverage for people hired by horse trainers.

Fields says the state Labor Department is investigating claims that some horse trainers do not offer workers' comp insurance for their employees.

He says if trainers do not offer workersâ€™ comp for their workers, those workers could look to the racetracks for compensation if they are injured.

Constantin Reiger, the commission's executive director, says the workers' comp issue is one the commission plans to â€œaggressivelyâ€ address in the coming months as it grants licenses for 2008.
