A small crowd of Owasso 9th and 10th graders protested outside of the Mid-High Friday afternoon. They say since House Bill 1804 became law other students have started harassing them, even calling them derogatory names.
"We come here just like everybody else. But, they make it seem like we're all from Mexico. We're all, we're nothing to them, like we don't do anything here. Like we're just coming here to invade. They want us to go back like we belong there. I mean, I was born in America,†said Maria Aguilera, a 10th grader in Owasso.
"You know, I'm sure some of them have some raw feelings and nerve endings, there's confusion and frustration. They're upset about some things. We want to deal with whatever we can to solve what problems we can,†added Don Huggins, principal of Owasso Mid High.
School administrators plan to sit down with the students next week to address their problems.
