OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ President Bush is issuing a proclamation honoring Oklahoma's 100th anniversary as a state and praising the pioneers who settled the state. The state's centennial is next Friday, November 16th. The proclamation says Oklahoma took shape as Americans begin looking to the American West for new opportunities.
It says the pioneers who came to the state helped define both the spirit of Oklahoma and the character of the United States.
A reception was held at the White House with member's of the state's congressional delegation and those attending singing ``Oklahoma!'' and being served birthday cake.
