It was a wild ride in Sand Springs Saturday night. People from across the area "cowboyed up" for a rodeo benefit. All the money raised goes to the American Therapeutic Riding Center. The non-profit organization helps disabled children and adults through therapeutic horseback rides.
The therapy helps participants experience freedom, despite their disability. In fact, studies show riders with physical disabilities gain better flexibility, balance and muscle strength. And, the therapy helps emotionally, too.
"It works them and gives them exercise. So, even though it sounds fun, which it is, they love it, but still they get their physical therapy in,†said Vicky Burkett with American Therapeutic Riding Center.
The American Therapeutic Riding Center opened back in August.
