Bats have invaded the TU campus, but there' not the spooky critters that usually come to mind on Halloween. TU engineering students have designed mechanical bats that hit balls from special tees. The students were only allowed to spend $75 on the project. Wednesday was the first time the hi-tech creations were put to the test.

One student's bat was a homerun with the professor knocking a ball nearly 200 feet. The professor says the project teaches students to think outside the box.

“I want them to learn how many different ways there are to do the same thing,” said University of Tulsa professor Steve Tipton. “Ultimately, when they see all these different ways to go next time around they'll think a little harder about other ways to do something.”
