DENVER (AP) _ A federal appeals court is upholding the conviction and death sentence of southeast Oklahoma man who was convicted of killing his 11-year-old niece in 1991. The court says there is strong evidence of the guilt of Jesse Cummings Junior of Phillips in the death of Melissa Moody.
The girl's body was found in Choctaw County and the case went unsolved for three years until one of two women who were married to Cummings at the same time confessed to her role in a related murder.
Juanita Lewis admitted her role in the death of Cummings' half-sister Judy Mayo and helped implicate Cummings in the death of Moody.
