OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- One of U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe's opponents in the debate about global warming criticizes the Oklahoma Republican for comments he made last week about the issue.
Inhofe is an avowed critic of the theory that human activity is responsible for global warming. Senator Barbara Boxer, a California Democrat, says Inhofe is ignoring the advice of the world's leading scientists, The Oklahoman reported from its Washington bureau.
Boxer is now the chairman of the Senate's Environment and Public Works Committee, which Inhofe led until the GOP lost control of the U.S. Senate after the last election.
Boxer chastised Inhofe during a speech Monday on the Senate floor, comparing him to someone who doesn't believe cigarette smoking causes cancer and saying, quote, "you're not in touch with reality."
During his speech Friday, Inhofe said the media, environmental groups and "Hollywood" liberals, among others, have exaggerated the causes and effects of global warming.
