CHICAGO (AP) -- State police in Illinois say a wrong-way driver on an expressway caused a fiery crash that killed five people.
The accident west of downtown Chicago closed all the lanes on Interstate 290 for nearly three hours.
Illinois State police say the wrong way driver is among the dead.
Troopers say the man driving the wrong way crashed head-on into another car carrying four people. That car burst into flames and was hit by a van. The van driver did not suffer major injuries.
Some witnesses said the wrong-way driver was traveling at nearly 100 mph.
Police say friends of the four who died in the vehicle that was hit say the victims were members of a family from Mexico and had no known close relatives in the U.S.
