TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- Oral Roberts basketball coach Scott Sutton said Friday that he has suspended junior forward Marchello Vealy from the Golden Eagles' team.
Sutton did not give a specific reason for Vealy's suspension in a news release issued by the university. The 6’7 Vealy averaged 7.7 points and 5.9 rebounds per game last season as Oral Roberts won the Mid-Continent Conference title and reached the NCAA tournament for the second straight season.
Vealy, from Oklahoma City, was a preseason second-team all-conference selection in the newly named Summit League.
"Our student-athletes have a responsibility which extends beyond the court," Sutton said in a statement. "Lately, Marchello hasn't been fulfilling those responsibilities. He will be given an opportunity to rejoin the team when he shows the commitment we require."
Oral Roberts will open its season on November 9 at home against Southwestern Oklahoma State.
