Police in Tulsa nab two suspects in a double homicide case. Detectives believe one of the men strangled two women on Tuesday, and his friend helped cover it up. News On 6 anchor Latoya Silmon reports the case began as a real whodunit. But, police credit good detective work in cracking the case. Police note both suspects are not new to the justice system.
Less than 48 hours after the murders, police arrested Eric Phillips and Tony Hall. Investigators say Phillips killed the two women and Hall helped him cover it up.
“We were able to develop, as the investigation continued, witnesses who were able to place the victims with these individuals at certain times,†said Tulsa Police detective Vic Regalado.
Both of the men have had run ins with the law. Eric Phillips is currently facing a domestic assault and battery by strangulation charge. Court documents say he beat and choked his wife last April. In June, a judge ruled there was enough evidence for him to stand trial. Eric Phillips was out on bond, but now he's back in jail accused of strangulation again. Tulsa Police say this time it ended in death.
“We weren't given a reason by those individuals why they were killed. And, I'm not sure we’ll ever know why they killed the victims, but the fact of the matter is they did,†said Tulsa Police detective Vic Regalado.
While all the reasons aren’t known, more details are known about what happened Tuesday.
According to police reports, Tony Hall admitted to his part in the cover-up. He told police he picked the women up in a bar and took them to Eric Phillips’ house. He says he left and when he returned, the women were dead.
