More Oklahoma National Guard members are on their way to serving in Iraq. About 100 members of the 45th Fires Brigade left Thursday for Fort Bliss, Texas. The National Guard troops will train in Texas until January when they will be sent to Iraq. For many, it will be their first time to be deployed overseas.
“Training and deployment are two different things. It's like practice and game day. It's all escalated to another level,†said Spc. Jason Pooler.
More than 2,400 members of the Oklahoma National Guard have been mobilized for combat in Iraq.
