STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) _ Oklahoma state cornerback Martel Van Zant will be one of the athletes recognized as part of ``The 2007 ARETE Honors for Courage in Sports.''

The one-hour special, set to be televised October 28 on CBS, will honor athletes who have overcome challenges and adversity to succeed in sports.

For Van Zant, the challenge is his deafness.

He forced a fumble in Oklahoma State's 45-14 win at Nebraska last week. He started the Cowboys' first four games, but missed the Sam Houston State game with a turf toe injury that's also bothered him the past two weeks. He has 19 total tackles this season.

Other honorees at the 18th annual event include pitcher Cooper Brannan, a former Marine who lost a finger in his second tour of duty in Iraq before signing a minor-league contract with the San Diego Padres this spring.
