OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- A California man is being charged with a nearly 20-year-old murder in Oklahoma City.

Oklahoma County prosecutors are charging Victor James Fontenette of Los Angeles with first-degree murder in the 1989 shooting death of John Clayton.

Authorities say Clayton was shot December 16, 1989 after finding his girlfriend with another man in their apartment.

Investigators say Clayton and the girlfriend argued before going into a bedroom to talk to the man who then shot Clayton once in the chest.

The man was known only as "Tubby" and police say they only recently identified Fontenette as that man.

Oklahoma City police Inspector Kyle Eastridge says Fontenette now owns a car lot in Los Angeles and has not been arrested.
