CLEVELAND (AP) -- Jake Westbrook had his sinkerball working and has pitched the Cleveland Indians to a 2-1 advantage in the American League Championship Series. The Indians gained the series lead by beating the Boston Red Sox 4-2.
Jake Westbrook held the Red Sox to two runs on seven hits in his six and two-thirds innings.
Kenny Lofton's two-run home run off Red Sox starter Daisuke Matsuzaka got the Indians on the board in the second inning. The Indians added two more when they knocked out Matsuzaka in the fifth inning.
Cleveland relievers Jensen Lewis, Rafael Betancourt and Joe Borowski followed Westbrook and pitched two and a-third innings of hitless relief.
Jason Varitek's two-run homer in the seventh was the Boston offense.
Game 4 is Tuesday night at Jacobs Field. Knuckleballer Tim Wakefield, who's been bothered by bad problems, is scheduled to pitch for Boston against Paul Byrd of the Indians.
