ADA, Okla. (AP) -- Authorities have identified a woman who was mauled to death Monday by a pack of dogs.
Pontotoc County Undersheriff Joe Glover says 65-year-old Rosalie Bivins was checking her mail on a rural county road when she was attacked by five to seven mixed-breed pit bulldogs.
Undersheriff Joe Glover says a rural mail carrier who happened upon the scene while the attack was occuring found her lying in the road yelling for help.
Acting postmaster Rick Stowers says the animals tried to attack the carrier as he attempted to help Rosalie Bivins. The carrier then drove to a neighbor's house to ask for help.
The neighbor grabbed his gun and when the pair returned to the scene, they found another man fighting the dogs who had been bitten on the arm and leg. Authorities say the neighbor killed one of the dogs and the rest ran away.
Rosalie Bivins died before emergency personnel could arrive.
