WELCH, Okla. (AP) _ Two Kansas teenage brothers are dead after the van they were riding in was hit by a train in northeastern Oklahoma.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says 15-year-old John Patrick Short and 17-year-old Nicholas Short of Pittsburg, Kansas, died in the crash in Craig County.
Troopers say the boys were in a van driven by their father on a county road south of Welch when the van pulled into the path of a Union Pacific train about 3:30 Sunday afternoon.
Troopers say the boys' 10-year-old sister is hospitalized in guarded condition in Joplin, Missouri, while a 12-year-old sister and the parents were treated and released at a hospital in Vinita.
