INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Telephone calls to basketball recruits land Indiana coach Kelvin Sampson in trouble again, and this time it will cost the team a scholarship and him a $500,000 raise.
Indiana announced Sunday that the school's basketball staff exceeded NCAA limits on calls to recruits during the past year.
During that period, Coach Kelvin Sampson was barred from off-campus recruiting because of excessive recruiting calls when he was coaching at Oklahoma.
School officials in Indiana say the new violations happened on about ten occasions when an Indiana assistant coach started three-way calls that connected Kelvin Sampson into an ongoing recruiting conversation with recruits, their parents or coaches.
Coach Kelvin Sampson is voluntarily giving up the raise for this season and the basketball program will lose one scholarship for next season.
