A Tulsa family wakes up to find, while they were sleeping, someone broke into their home and stole their things, including two of their cars. News On 6 anchor Latoya Silmon reports police say one of the suspects didn't get far. Meanwhile, the family lost their things and their sense of security.
As for the suspects, one of them was transported to a hospital. He ended up crashing the family’s convertible Saab just minutes after the break-in.
Police in Tulsa say the 17-year-old ran a stop sign at 51st and South Utica Avenue then crashed into a concrete barrier along Interstate 44.
It happened around 4:30 Friday morning. Tulsa police say he and possibly one other person broke into a couple's home.
Tulsa police say the suspect is in critical condition after the car crash.
"More than likely this was a target of opportunity. He was out checking doors, found one that was possibly unlocked or found a way in and helped himself,†said Tulsa Police Sgt. Rick Bondy.
News On 6 crime reporter Lori Fullbright says you can take steps to burglar-proof your home.
She recommends keeping your shades closed so thieves won't see your valuables. She adds, if you have trailers, boats or motor bikes store them inside. And, if you buy something new like a TV, throw the box in the trash. News On 6 crime reporter Lori Fullbright says you don’t want the box sitting on the curb for everyone to see.
