A man trying to cross a busy interstate is hit and killed on Monday. The accident happened around 5 p.m. Monday evening on Interstate-44 near the Lewis exit.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol Troopers say 58-year-old Clanton Bennett left a gas station on Skelly Drive and was trying to cross the interstate when a moving van struck him.

The driver of the moving van, who is from out of state, told Troopers he did not see Bennett until it was too late to avoid hitting him.

Bennett died from multiple injuries at the scene. The driver was not injured.

Eastbound lanes of the interstate were shutdown for about two hours while authorities investigated the accident.

This is the third fatal auto-pedestrian accident in two days. On Sunday night, 20-year-old William Strawn and 18-year-old Elyse Cannon died after they were hit by two cars on the Broken Arrow Expressway.
