JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- Jacksonville Jaguars left tackle Khalif Barnes has some explaining to do.

Police say he drove through a yard, crashed into a tree, and left the accident scene last weekend.

Barnes is already on probation for a drunken driving charge. He's been cited for careless driving and leaving the scene of an accident. Khalif Barnes also was charged with violating a provision of his probation that limited his driving to work purposes.

According to a Jacksonville Sheriff's Office report, Khalif Barnes reported the accident just after 6:30am on Saturday. When officers arrived, they found Barnes' 2007 Mercedes crashed into a tree, but no Barnes.

Police then went to Barnes' home, but he wasn't there.

Barnes' attorney tells the Florida Times-Union newspaper that Barnes fell asleep while driving to Jacksonville Municipal Stadium for mandatory treatment on a sprained ankle.

Coxe says Khalif Barnes returned home, borrowed a car from a relative and then drove to the treatment session. Coxe says Barnes left treatment and went straight to the Sheriff's Office.

Barnes says that he used poor judgment and should have stayed with the car.
