GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) _ Coach Mike McCarthy says despite the Green Bay Packers 4-and-0 start, his players have a good understanding of where they are -- a good, young football team with room for improvement.

McCarthy says that by the mood in the locker room after the Vikings game yesterday, you couldn't tell the Packers had won the contest 23-16. He says some of the players were disappointed in their performance -- and it showed.

At his news conference this afternoon, McCarthy says it's urgent that some players improve technically.

But, that doesn't mean McCarthy thinks his team has marginal talent. He says he's never walked into a contest thinking they couldn't win.

The coach says the Packers will continue to play to their strengths.

As for Brett Favre's historic mark on career touchdown passes, McCarthy says it wasn't a distraction from beating the Vikings because Favre handled it with such class.
