A Broken Arrow woman is in critical condition after being shot in her home, police say. A Broken Arrow police officer was also shot, but was saved by his bulletproof vest. News On 6 crime reporter Lori Fullbright reports this story is about a woman living in fear, who got a protective order, filed police reports, but still nearly died at the hands of her ex-boyfriend, Kelly Waymire.

Residents living in a Broken Arrow neighborhood, located near the 1400 block of West Fredericksburg Street, heard gunshots Monday morning around 7:30. Police say Teresa Thompson's ex-boyfriend broke into her home and got into a gunfight with her current boyfriend. Teresa was hit in the side of her chest, her boyfriend escaped to get help. Police say when they arrived at the home Waymire shot an officer in the chest, then held Teresa and her 15-year-old daughter hostage.

Prayer was the only help friends could offer for their friend Laney and her mother Teresa, who police say were both inside a home, being held at gunpoint by Teresa's ex-boyfriend, Kelly Waymire. According to records, Waymire had held them hostage last year as well. That time, 15-year-old Lindsay Flynn was spending the night.

"He had ammo on him on a belt, he had guns, handcuffs and more ammo and guns in the car," family friend Lindsay Flynn said.

Records show Waymire pleaded no contest and got a suspended sentence in the case.

Despite protective orders and repeated police reports, friends and neighbors say the threats and harassment from Waymire were constant.

"He got crazy. He caught her car on fire, cut her phone lines, cut her power lines, supposedly stole her car, just messing with the woman," neighbor Erica Krafft said.

The waiting during Monday’s standoff was hard, as neighbors and friends knew Teresa had been shot and her daughter was hiding in an upstairs bedroom. Tears and hugs abounded at news the SWAT team used a ladder to rescue Laney from a window. It took another hour before the SWAT team forced entry into home.

Police say even though Waymire shot at them, they did not shoot back, but subdued him and took him into custody. They called for a helicopter to take Teresa to the hospital.

Several of Teresa’s neighbors blame police for letting it get this far.

"It could've been prevented,” family friend Carsen Archer said. “They blew it off and blew it off until it finally takes this to happen."

"I think there could've been more effort by the Broken Arrow police. It's been going on, it's on going. He threatened her life and they should've taken that more seriously," said Krafft.

The officer who was shot is home recovering. A family friend at the hospital tells The News On 6 that Teresa was shot in the side; the bullet broke her rib, punctured her lung and hit her spinal cord.

Waymire faces attempted murder charges along with many others.
