BOSSIER CITY, La. (AP) _ Going Ballistic, a horse with numerous Oklahoma connections, wins the Grade 2 Super Derby at Louisiana Downs today, rallying to beat even-money favorite Grasshopper by a length.
Going Ballistic is ridden by Cliff Berry, a longtime jockey at Remington Park in Oklahoma City, and trained by Donnie Von Hemel of Piedmont, Oklahoma.
The thoroughbred was last year's 2-year-old champion at Remington Park.
Going Ballistic ran 1-and-one-eighth miles in 1:50.32 while upsetting Grasshopper, a horse that came into the Super Derby after a second-place showing at the Travers, just behind Kentucky Derby winner Street Sense.
