TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality has seized records from a Tulsa landfill that the agency is trying to shut down. DEQ says it is trying to close the North Tulsa Sanitary Landfill for allegedly failing to submit an approvable plan for a new disposal location.
The agency says trash is still burning at the landfill and its continued operation is a hazard to the environment.
Landfill attorney James Dunn says the allegations are false and that photos indicating a fire at the landfill are "totally fictitious."
DEQ spokeswoman Skylar McElhaney declined to provide details about the records but says the agency used a search warrant to take records it is entitled to have under law.
The state is also asking an Oklahoma County district judge to find the landfill in contempt of an earlier court order that it be shut down.
