AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ Former Texas quarterback Peter Gardere, who led the Longhorns to four straight wins over rival Oklahoma, was arrested early Thursday on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
Austin Police Department spokeswoman Laura Albrecht says Gardere was pulled over near downtown after running a traffic light just after midnight Wednesday.
Gardere, who now works in commercial real estate for Austin's Stratus Properties Incorporated, was released from Travis County Jail early today on personal recognizance.
During his UT career, Gardere went 25-16 as a starter from 1989-1992 and also played the outfield for the Texas baseball team. He became known as ``Peter the Great'' among UT fans for his mastery of the Sooners.
