OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ The state of Oklahoma will get a $5 million grant as part of an effort to get more students to walk and bicycle to school.

The effort is part of a national program and the money will be used in Oklahoma to build or improve sidewalks, pedestrian crossings and create safety education programs.

It is part of the Safe Routes to School program which hopes to make students more active and healthy.

Officials say the program could also get more cars and trucks off the roads and improve the environment.

An International Walk to School Day is planned for October 3rd.
