While most Oklahomans enjoyed a day of rest on Labor Day, American Red Cross workers were on the job. Workers spent Labor Day in Tulsa staffing a holiday blood drive. Health officials say during the holidays, the number of blood collections drop. Red Cross officials hope Monday’s drive will keep the blood flowing.

“Anytime we miss a day where we don't collect blood, that's a day where we've got to make up those units that our hospitals are expecting from us. The patients are still needing blood so regardless of the time of year the need for blood is there,” says Jan Hale with American Red Cross.

Red Cross officials say one blood donation can help as many as three people. Right now, officials say Tulsa area hospitals are most in need of ‘O’ type blood.
