A scary situation for a Tulsa family this Labor Day weekend. Tulsa Police tell the News On 6, a toddler nearly drowned near 4th and Memorial Saturday afternoon. The incident happened at an apartment complex pool.
Tulsa Police say they found a young girl, unconscious and barely breathing on the side of the pool. Rescue crews immediately started giving the girl oxygen. Tulsa Police believe the toddler was being supervised by other children. They are now trying to determine exactly what happened and where the girl's parents were.
Police officers say everyone wants to have a good time on holiday weekends, but that does not mean let your guard down.
“This is a prime example of how with the weather nice it not being too terribly hot that it’s still important to pay attention to your kids," says Tulsa Police Captain Steve Odom.
On the way to the hospital, EMSA says a car pulled out in front of the ambulance on Yale Avenue near 55th Street causing a traffic accident. EMSA officials say it does not appear the girl suffered any injuries in that crash. EMSA paramedics in the ambulance were not hurt.
Another EMSA ambulance arrived at the accident scene and rushed the girl on to a Tulsa hospital.
EMSA says the girl is listed in serious condition.
