They’re the men and women in the striped shirts that everyone loves to hate, especially when they make a bad call. But the referee’s word is law on a football field, like it or not!
Officials play an important role in a football game. They keep the game rolling by watching watch the clock and they’re the enforcers of the rules. When a player violates one of the rules the ref’s penalize them. Players are penalized for things like delay of game, off-sides, holding, clipping, etc. Each of those calls has their own signals called by the ref, for a print out of those referee signals, click here.
