OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ A pair of surprise winners prevail in a pair of $50,000 stakes races at Remington Park.
Classic Actress was the only female in the seven-horse field for the Red Earth Derby yesterday but prevailed by a half-length over Garbu's Son. Some Quick finished third.
Classic Actress is trained by Donnie Von Hemel of Piedmont and is owned by Wayne Sanders and Larry Hirsch of Dallas. Under jockey Belen Quinonez, she went off at 4-1 odds in the 7 1/2-furlong turf race and paid $10 to win.
In the six-furlong Black Mesa Stakes for fillies and mares, 28-1 longshot Not Much Money rallied under jockey Perry Compton from last in the final half-mile to beat seven competitors.
She beat Mystical Moonlight by a half-length, with Annieville finishing third.
Not Much Money is owned by Charles Golden of Tulsa and trained by Steve Manley. She paid $58.40 to win.
The 10-cent superfecta at Remington Park resulted in a $7,007.62 payoff, the largest of this year at Remington Park.
