BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) _ An apology and paying for damaged property could get LSU linebacker and Mississippi native Derrick Odom off the hook for misdemeanor charges against him.
Stephen Gaffney says he's willing to drop the four charges against Odom if Odom if he gets both.
Gaffney said his attorney and Odom's attorney, Nathan Fisher, were scheduled to meet tomorrow (Monday) to try and resolve the differences, which precipitated Odom's arrest Thursday.
Odom, who played at Callaway High School in Jackson, Miss., was suspended indefinitely by LSU Coach Les Miles.
Odom, 19, was charged with simple assault, attempted unauthorized entry into an inhabited dwelling and two counts of simple criminal damage to property after he allegedly confronted Gaffney outside a Baton Rouge condominium complex at approximately 2 a.m. July 28.
The confrontation followed an alleged dispute between football players and Gaffney's son, Austin, who was inside the condominium.
According to an arrest warrant, Odom allegedly tried to shoulder his way through the door of the condo, owned by the elder Gaffney, and it resulted in a broken door frame.
According to the affidavit, Gaffney said Odom also pulled wires out of a spotlight on the bumper of Austin Gaffney's car and let the air out of the tires.
