The family of a man who died while being held at the Muskogee County jail has filed a tort claim with the county citing wrongful death. A legal notice sent to Muskogee County commissioners says Charles Weatherford asked for medical help, but did not get it until he collapsed five hours later. Weatherford later died of a heart attack.
The autopsy report says the five-hour delay in medical treatment played a part in Weatherford's death.
Muskogee County commissioners can choose to settle the tort claim, deny it, or do nothing.
