A local family hopes you can help find their loved ones killer. Cody Holmes was shot and killed two days before Easter at the Tulsa pawn shop where he worked. The murder was caught on tape and police have all the suspects in custody, except for one. News On 6 crime reporter Lori Fullbright talked exclusively to Cody's sister. She reports his family says the killer felt he was man enough to pull the trigger, so now, he should be man enough to stop running, admit what he did and take the punishment.
Cody Holmes was only 20-years-old, a son, a brother and a friend. He was the person in the family who made everybody else laugh and everybody loved his hugs. His sisters and father have not talked to the media since Cody's murder, but feel it's time, time for the killer to be caught and time for people to realize Cody wasn't just another statistic on the news.
"He was an amazing person and I miss him everyday," said Cody's sister Karie.
Surveillance video shows three men walking into the EZ Pawn store on East Admiral on April 6th. Police say they were looking at men's watches when one of them grabbed a watch and turned to leave. Cody reached out to grab the watch or stop them and one suspect punched Cody, another, shot him.
"There was no point, no reason to shoot him. He wasn't doing anything to be shot. He was doing his job," Karie said. "He was working, not out trying to rob somebody, not out partying, being stupid. He was at work, doing something he enjoyed doing and they killed him for that."
Police believe 17-year-old Marquaillo Holbert was the man who fired that fatal shot. Authorities are convinced Holbert is getting help from family or friends to avoid capture. He has been on the run since the April shooting and police, marshals and the family want someone to step forward with information.
Cody's family say they want Holbert caught, not because it will bring them closure, it won't, not because it will bring Cody back, it won't, but because it's right and just and he should be held accountable for taking such a special life.
"Doesn't matter why, that fact is he did, there's no changing that," said Cody's sister.
Police suspect Holbert may have recently been back in the Tulsa area.
The EZ Pawn company has put up a $15,000 reward for the person who helps police arrest Holbert.
If you see Holbert, or know where he is, call Crimestoppers, 596-COPS. The number is now answered in Canada, so no one will know who calls and the reward is given through a secret code system. There's even a state law that says no one who calls Crimestoppers can be revealed or forced to testify.
