SALT LAKE CITY (AP) _ Gov. Jon Huntsman grounded all Utah Army National Guard aircraft Tuesday in response to a helicopter crash that killed two Guardsmen the day before.
The AH-64 Apache crashed during a training flight west of Utah Lake in Lake Mountain, Guard spokesman Maj. Hank McIntire said. The two victims were the only people on board. Army investigators will try to determine the cause.
``As commander in chief of the National Guard, I grieve for the families and the whole Utah National Guard family,'' Huntsman said in a statement.
The guard uses Apache and Blackhawk helicopters, McIntire said. He said the stand-down was a safety review to ensure the crash was not a maintenance issue. McIntire didn't know how long the aircraft would be grounded.
Another crew training Monday night followed the route and spotted the wreckage after the AH-64 failed to make regular radio contact, McIntire said.
The names of the victims, who both served in Afghanistan in 2005, were not immediately released.
