ALVA, Okla. (AP) -- Five years after her son's disappearance, a Woodward County woman will go on trial Monday on a first-degree murder charge. The body of 6-year-old Logan Lynn Tucker has never been found. But prosecutors allege that his mother, 32-year-old Katherine Rutan, killed her son in the early morning of June 23, 2002.
The trial's start comes after years of legal wrangling. In February, Judge Ray Dean Linder granted a defense attorney's motion to move Rutan's trial from Woodward County to Alva in nearby Woods County.
Volunteers who showed up to help search for the little boy scoured fields or rooted through trash in a landfill where investigators think Rutan may have dumped her son's body -- stuffed in an old suitcase.
But after months of searching, no clues were found.
