NORMAN, Okla. (AP) -- Student-athletes at the University of Oklahoma will gather this weekend to recite an oath aimed at reminding them of their responsibilities as ambassadors for the school.
The Sooner Oath was developed by the Student-Athlete Advisory Council and based on oaths by the Boy Scouts and the University of North Carolina.
University president David Boren and former football coach Barry Switzer will speak to the athletes before the recitation of the oath Sunday night.
Each athlete will be given a laminated card with the oath printed on it, and it will also be posted in team locker rooms and meeting spaces.
