There are not really many changes to the forecast. A ridge of high pressure will continue to be the main factor in our weather bringing us ever closer, and eventually over, the 100-degree mark. Therefore, the Excessive Heat Warning has been extended to other portions of the viewing area.
Looking towards the beginning of next week, the ridge of high pressure isn’t going anywhere fast. In fact, most of the computer models predict that it will move towards the southeastern part of the country, and then move back over Oklahoma. As it moves to the east, southwest winds will pick up slightly. During the weekend and the early part of next week, the ridge will center back over Oklahoma bringing light winds, hotter temperatures, dangerously high heat index values, and possibly some air quality issues.
There is a trough that will be just to our north in Kansas. Some showers and thunderstorms will probably develop along this trough, but they will most likely stay north of the border. If you somehow find yourself under one of these cooling showers, count yourself lucky.
Otherwise, try to stay cool. Heat index values will be dangerously high. Severe dehydration and heat stroke become real possibilities during this kind of weather, and both are life-threatening conditions. If you’re going to Southern Hills for the PGA, be prepared for the heat and drink plenty of water.
